Our chief designer ... Bruce Roberts-Goodson comments: Many people ask me what is the difference between Plans & frame patterns & Cutting Files and Plans ... The plans we show here are for you to build from 'Scratch'. To be more specific ... Using the plans shown below and a collection of appropriate materials you build the boat from "scratch" ... You  make the frames from the patterns supplied and then you make patterns for each subsequent part as you proceed to build the boat...See below for details of a typical plan & frame patterns...

PLANS: You will receive the latest updated version of your selected plan, this is only possible when you order your plans direct from Bruce Roberts-Goodson - Bruce Roberts Yacht Design ... You will receive many construction sheets, which include copious written notes as well as the detailed drawings necessary to build all parts of your boat. You can only receive the latest plans from the designer so beware of  Pirated Plans Many changes & additions have been made to our plans over the past few years ... these updated plans are only available from an Authorized Bruce Roberts Yacht Design office. Sheet 1A. General arrangement drawing, hull, deck and superstructure and deck plan.
Sheet 1AA. Accommodation plan, accommodation profile and materials list.
Sheet 2. Lines plan, show hull sections, profile including all water and buttock lines, plan view including all water lines and buttock lines. All frame spacing, stern or transom detail keel measurements, rudder and skeg should all be included and all dimensions are clearly shown.
Sheet 3. This sheet will be a reduced drawing, representing what you can expect to see, when you lay out the full size patterns. We call this sheet the key to full size patterns; it acts as a key when arranging the patterns and will enable you to readily understand just what the patterns contain. This sheet will help you to resist the temptation of trying to lay out the patterns on your living room floor.
Sheet 4. You are shown how to manufacture and assemble the frames, plus form up the stem and other parts of the basic framework. This sheet also shows how to set up all these items on a strongback or a system of bedlogs. The above forms the shape of your hull.
Sheet 5. This sheet will show the installation of the stringers and deck shelf plus installing the plating in metal boats and the fiberglass or wood epoxy lay-up as appropriate.
Sheet 6. Inside of the hull, shows the installation of the floor webs, bulkheads, engine beds, and all interior stiffeners.
Sheet 7. This sheet may show detail of the various items covered in sheet 6. Often it takes two sheets to cover webs, bulkheads, engine installation and locating the tanks.
Sheet 8. This is the engineering sheet and covers making the rudder, the stern and rudder tube and the tanks. Also included is the propeller shaft detail and other information that could be considered as engineering. Stanchions swim platforms and similar items may also be on this sheet.
Sheet 9. Details the forming and installation of deck beams, side decks, foredeck, aft deck, cockpit construction and all deck framing details.
Sheet 10. Patterning and making the cabin sides cabin front etc.
Sheet 11. This sheet covers such items as, deck fittings, additional rudder construction etc.
A DINGHY PLAN, including FULL SIZE patterns to enable you to build the BRUCE ROBERTS TENDER in either fiberglass or plywood is included with all plans.
A DETAIL FOLIO showing how to build some fittings and tools plus other valuable construction tips is included with all plans
Sheets A, B, C,D,E,F,G & H These are the full size pattern sheets that are laid together wall-paper fashion. The full size patterns contain details of all frame shapes, stem, deck and cabin top cambers and the pattern for the expanded transom. Patterns are either paper or are available as an option, plotted direct to Mylar film

Where Fibreglass is mentioned as a material this means Balsa sandwich / Foam sandwich, Single skin or C-Flex. All steel plans are readily adaptable to aluminium construction unless otherwise stated. Most wood epoxy designs can be built using either molded ply or strip plank or a combination of the two.

Bruce Roberts - SAILBOAT KITS or PLANS & CUTTING FILES
We prefer steel to aluminum ... Much less expensive, stronger, less maintenance, easier to paint & less electrolysis problems.  BUT if you wish to build in Aluminum we can provide a kit in that material. Generally speaking an aluminum kit costs twice that of the steel kit of equal size.

Pre cut boat kits contain all the metal parts required to build a complete sailboat. These parts are computer generated and NC Plasma cut before they are packed and delivered ready for you to start assembling and welding into the finished boat. We design and nest the package using our specialized computer programs The kits are then cut on a computerized plasma-oxygen cutter. Complete assembly plans and written  instructions are supplied with each kit.

The kits contain all the pre-shot blasted and primed steel to build the hull, decks and superstructure. All framing, stringers, engine beds, 'T' sole bearers, deck beams, deck stringers and all exterior hull, deck and cabin plating is included. You also receive 3 steel bulkheads complete with stiffeners. In radius chine boats, all the rounded chine plates are included rolled to the exact shape and curvature for a perfect fit. Windows and doorways are cut out as required. Complete assembly and engineering plans supplied. Delivery is included.

For example, an 11m ( 36' ) yacht would comprise of around 350 parts! These kits are shipped world-wide, each in individual containers. We can develop customized kits for most Bruce Roberts designed boats. These kits are a great way to get on the water in a boat that you have helped design for yourself.
